Under the Indian Copyright Act, 1957, and the Cinematograph Act (Amendment), 2023, accessing or downloading pirated content is a criminal offense. Authorities can now track IP addresses of users visiting piracy sites. While prosecution of individual viewers is rare, ISPs have been ordered to block access, and repeat offenders can face fines or imprisonment.
