When you plug a Canon PIXMA TS3120 into a Windows 10 or 11 PC without an internet connection, the automatic Plug-and-Play system may label the unknown device as "Canon F16640" in Device Manager. This is because the generic Windows INF file (setup information file) recognizes the USB Vendor ID (0x04A9 for Canon) and the Product ID (F16640) before the full driver suite is installed.
Note: If you are using a modern version of Windows, the OS may automatically install a basic driver when you plug the printer in via USB. However, for full scanning capabilities, manual installation of the Canon software is highly recommended.
Outdated drivers cause security vulnerabilities and missing features. Update every 6–12 months.
